About Me

character designer, concept artist, military historian

Hello, my name is Alexander Chernushkin.

More than 30 years I have been engaged in military history, specializing in the uniform of various armies of the world. First of all, on the uniform of the Russian Imperial Army in the period from 1700 till 1917, and the uniforms of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army (RKKA) and the Soviet Army in the period from 1918 till 1990.  In addition, I specially studied the history of the uniforms of various countries during the Napoleonic Wars 1798-1815, the First World War 1914-1918 and the Second World War 1939-1945.

As a result, over all these years I"ve created more than 1,500 realistic and accurate illustrations of historical characters, uniforms, weapons, equipment, etc .

This book was an another attempt to read the history of the capital city of Moscow from the second half of the 19th century until the events of 1917. This time, against the backdrop of the evolution of one of the brightest symbols of the Russian Empire - a military and civilian uniform. At the period second half XIX- beginning of the XX century in Russia there was a real cult of the uniform, which was the embodiment of belonging to the state system. The Russian military and civilian uniform was a symbol of honor, service to the “Tsar and the Matherland,” as well as an indication of social status, professional affiliation, position and rank.
